There’s a new show out there all about “Nerd Girls,” and yours truly, I, The Drone Girl, am proud to announce that I star in the pilot episode.
The Nerd Girl Nation web series launched as a video series highlighting smart women across a variety of STEM careers, hopefully encouraging and inspiring girls and young women to pursue careers in STEM. One of Nerd Girls’ main goals is to “redefine nerd” and debunk stereotypes.
The first episode focuses on both drones and space. I share airtime with Loren Grush, a New York-based science journalist at The Verge. We talk about failures, how to write about STEM and more.
Watch it all here:
Nerd Girls was founded by Dr. Karen Panetta, a professor and Dean at Tufts University and an IEEE Fellow, to empower female engineering students and challenge the stereotypes and myths about women in the profession. Panetta teamed up with award-winning producer Karen Johnson and Oscar® and Emmy®-nominated filmmaker Paola di Florio to create the series. The Nerd Girl Nation web series is cohosted by Panetta and Craig “Lowie” Low, an award-winning Australian comedian, TV host, radio host, and writer.
Of course, the only thing I’m more excited about than this first episode is the rest of the series. I’m personally psyched for Episode 6, where Karen Rockwell will talk about being an industrial engineer for Disneyland, as well as Episode 5, where Alison Sheets will talk about being a biomechanical engineer at Nike.
The whole series is going to be incredibly inspiring, and I hope you all subscribe on YouTube for not just my episode, but the others too!
