Skydio unveils the F10 Lightrunner: A 100 mph autonomous fixed-wing drone

Live from the Ascend 2026 conference in Las Vegas — chosen in part because it’s home to the nation’s largest-scale Drone as First Responder (DFR) program — Skydio officially announced its next-generation flagship aircraft: the Skydio F10 Lightrunner.

While quadcopters like the Skydio X10 currently dominate close-in public safety and inspection missions, the F10 Lightrunner represents a major leap in the space, not just because there are so few fixed wings in the space, but also for how this one is built.

This one was engineered to reach 100 mph, cover a 30-mile radius, and stay airborne for up to two hours, all solving the speed and endurance limits that have long constrained multirotor fleets.

“If you want to go really fast, go really far, you need a wing,” Skydio CEO Adam Bry told the audience of the keynote held on Sept. 23, 2026 in Las Vegas. “In order today to get cutting-edge fixed-wing capability, it takes a lot of people on the ground to operate these systems, to get them ready to fly, to recover them at the end of flight. … We see the potential for a true revolution in what’s possible with fixed-wing aircraft.”

What is the Skydio F10 Lightrunner?

Weighing in at 15.4 lbs (7 kg) with a polymer-skinned foam airframe, the NDAA-compliant F10 Lightrunner combines fixed-wing speed with fully automated launch-and-recovery robotics.

Here are some key specs:

1. Skydio’s new “SideEye” asymmetric gimbal

One of the most persistent issues with fixed-wing mapping and surveillance drones is camera obstruction. Traditional belly-mounted gimbals hit mechanical stops or get blocked by the drone’s own wing when executing tight 360-degree orbits around a subject.

Skydio solved this with its SideEye design, placing the continuous-roll gimbal directly on the wingtip. By moving the camera outside the rotor plane, the wing never blocks the camera’s line of sight. Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS) counter-rotates the video stream in real time, keeping the horizon level even during aggressive 60-degree banked turns.

The wingtip payload integrates three sensors:

2. High-speed 360-degree obstacle avoidance

To navigate around trees, power lines and buildings while traveling at 100 mph, the F10 is equipped with six 50MP binocular navigation cameras built directly into the fuselage and wings. Powered by Skydio’s new Foresight and Pathfinder autonomy engines, the vision system detects obstacles up to 300 feet (100 meters) away in real time, automatically rerouting the drone through changing terrain or geofenced airspace, even if cellular connection is lost.

For mid-air safety, the Skydio Airspace Assurance System (SAAS) ingests live ADS-B signals and detect-and-avoid inputs, automatically executing evasive maneuvers if an uncrewed or manned aircraft approaches a collision path.

Meet “MegaDock”: The 5-drone hive

Bry said during the keynote that dock-based flying now represents over half the flying done by its customers. Given its wild popularity, Skydio also unveiled MegaDock, which is a massive, climate-controlled, IP54-rated docking container engineered for multi-aircraft fleets.

Here are some of its key specs:

Rather than launching a single drone, MegaDock acts as a regional flight hub where an operator can keep three F10 drones in the air simultaneously while two remain inside charging on standby.

When one drone’s battery runs low after two hours, MegaDock executes an automated handoff which allows a fresh F10 to launch, taking over the orbit while the returning drone lands via the Robotic Takeoff and Landing (RTOL) catch system. Together, all the drones keep persistent eyes on a scene for what could theoretically be an indefinite period of time.

Software updates: VT300-Z Rev 2, Controller 2, and “Command” suites

While the F10 Lightrunner stole the spotlight, Skydio introduced several key hardware and software updates across its existing product ecosystem during the Ascend conference, including:
