How I chose the best drone events of 2026

As the drone industry matures, expectations for conferences and expos are shifting. According to a 2025 global survey of 383 drone professionals conducted by Drone Industry Insights, attendees are no longer satisfied with static booths and slide-heavy panels alone.

Instead, industry professionals say the most valuable drone events in 2026 share three defining traits:

• Live demos and real-world testing: Hands-on flight demonstrations, mission simulations, proof-of-concept trials, and practical workshops consistently outrank traditional presentations. Events that offer designated flight zones and real use cases are seen as far more valuable than those limited to indoor exhibits.
• Strong end-user representation: Attendees want to hear directly from operators in industries like energy, construction, utilities, public safety, and critical infrastructure — not just vendors selling to other vendors.
• Structured networking and matchmaking: Casual hallway conversations aren’t enough anymore. Professionals increasingly expect curated introductions, private meeting spaces, and matchmaking tools that connect the right stakeholders efficiently.

To make my list of best drone events in 2026, they had to fit all (or most) of that bill.

Girls in Aviation Day (GIAD) 2026

When: September 19, 2026 (Main international date, with local events running throughout autumn)

Where: Global locations (Airports, museums, and flight centers worldwide)

Who Should Attend: Youth ages 8–18, families, educators, and mentors

Why it matters: Hosted by Women in Aviation International (WAI), the 12th annual Girls in Aviation Day is a free, worldwide event inspiring young people to pursue aerospace careers. WAI formally embraced the commercial drone sector years ago, and today GIAD features hands-on STEM flight coding, indoor drone obstacle courses, and aerial mapping demonstrations alongside traditional flight simulators.

SPH Drone Camp · Budapest 2026

When: October 12–13, 2026 (Check-in from Oct 11)

Where: Nádas Tó Park Hotel (Vasad, Hungary — ~15 mins from Budapest Airport)

Who Should Attend: Surveyors, geoscientists, mining & construction leaders, environmental inspectors, public safety officials

If you are looking for a hands-on event that focuses strictly on field execution and advanced sensor integration, this European gathering is hard to beat. Hosted by SPH Engineering (the creators of UgCS software), this two-day countryside resort experience takes place live by a lake, demonstrating the complete drone surveying ecosystem from mission planning to final deliverables.

What makes this event stand out is its heavy focus on real-world testing. Mornings feature technical presentations, while afternoons are dedicated to live field demonstrations across specialized technologies including Ground-Penetrating Radar (GPR), Magnetometry (for detecting buried metal/unexploded ordnance), Bathymetry (underwater echo sounders and side-scan sonar), and airborne methane detection.

Bonus: Attendance is completely free (including business lunches, networking dinners, and access to all sessions and the Global Drone Operations Awards ceremony), though pre-registration and approval are required as capacity is limited.

NAB Show New York

When: October 21-22, 2026
Where: Javits Center, New York City
Who Should Attend: East Coast media professionals, content creators, broadcasters

NAB’s New York edition brings similar content and exhibits that you might see in the original Vegas event, but this time it’s on the East Coast, making it more accessible for those who can’t make the Vegas show. Perfect for regional networking and seeing the latest production technology.

UAV 2026 Summit in Miami

When: November 17-18, 2026

Where: Gulfstream Park in the Miami, Florida area

Who Should Attend: Commercial, enterprise and government customers

The ElevateUAV Summit will bring together drone manufacturers, enterprise decision-makers, public safety teams, agriculture operators, construction professionals and organizations evaluating drone programs for two days of live drone demonstrations, expert-led sessions,and industry networking.

2026 drone events that have already passed

CES 2026 (Consumer Electronics Show)

When: Jan. 6-9 2026
Where: Las Vegas, Nevada
Who Should Attend: Everyone from industry professionals to tech enthusiasts

CES 2026 seems to be the global epicenter for all sorts of innovation, drones included. This year features some of the most-anticipated tech, including the Antigravity A1 drone and a very neat water light show drone called the ARIVIA Water-Surface Drone. That’s on top of panels from key industry players, including folks from Wing and Amazon Prime Air.

Mikkeli International Drone Seminar

When: April 14, 2026
Where: Mikkeli, Finland
Who Should Attend: Nordic drone professionals, emergency services, public safety operators

This Finnish event focuses on practical drone applications in emergency services and law enforcement, featuring expert speakers from police departments and rescue operations across Europe.

NAB Show 2026

When: April 18-22, 2026
Where: Las Vegas Convention Center, Las Vegas, Nevada
Who Should Attend: Content creators, filmmakers, media professionals

Yet another Vegas conference! This is less focused on pure new tech and more about media and camera gear. That makes NAB Show the premier gathering for media, entertainment, and technology professionals.

We don’t have too many details yet, but typically DJI and other major manufacturers showcase their latest camera gimbals, transmission systems, and cinematography drones. This is where you’ll find cutting-edge tools for aerial filmmaking and content creation.

Drone Safety Day 2026

When: Saturday, April 25, 2026
Where: Events nationwide across the U.S.
Who Should Attend: All pilots, educators, families, beginners

Formerly known as National Drone Safety Awareness Week, this FAA-sponsored event is anything but bureaucratic. It’s a community celebration featuring fly-ins, STEM demonstrations, pilot training sessions, and both in-person and virtual events. Whether you’re passionate about Remote ID compliance, mentoring new pilots, or just looking for an excuse to fly, this is your day.

Typically colleges, local drone meetup groups and even companies will host activities tied to Drone Safety Day. Check the NCA Tech website for specific events near you.

Palm Springs Drone Fest

When: April 30 – May 2, 2026
Where: Palm Springs, California
Who Should Attend: Families, FPV racers, hobbyists, aspiring entrepreneurs

The second annual Palm Springs Drone Fest promises to be even bigger than the inaugural 2025 event. This family-friendly festival packs multiple facets of drone culture into one epic weekend. We don’t have a ton of details yet about this year’s event, but last year we saw:

• Drone Film Festival showcasing aerial cinematography

The world’s largest unmanned systems event returns to Detroit with over 25,000 square feet dedicated to defense applications. XPONENTIAL brings together the Defense Technologies Zone and MDEX, offering unprecedented insights into how drones are advancing national security and mission-ready technology. Expect exhibits, keynotes, and deep-dive discussions on emerging regulations and enterprise applications.

How to choose the right 2026 drone event for you

As the number of drone events continues to grow — particularly in Europe, which hosts nearly half of all major drone events globally — the key challenge for attendees in 2026 isn’t finding an event, but choosing the right one. Some of my recommendations from within, well, my recommendations:
