Amazon's Prime Early Access Sale October 11 12

The best drone deals of Amazon’s Prime Early Access Sale (and elsewhere online)

If it seems like the Black Friday feelings come earlier and earlier every year, how’s this? Amazon is having a big, Black Friday-style sale this week. It’s called Amazon’s Prime Early Access Sale and it kicked off yesterday, with more deals coming today.

Consider a bit of a hybrid of between Black Friday (the day after Thanksgiving) and Amazon Prime Day (the new Amazon annual event that happened on July 12 and 13, 2022). And like many of these big deal events, when one online retailer hosts a big sale, the other retailers that are not Amazon get FOMO and tend to host deal events of their own.

In order to shop Amazon’s Prime Early Access Sale, you must be an Amazon Prime member, which costs $139 a year to become one. That said, I’ve got a trick for you: simply sign up for an Amazon Prime 30-day free trial. Then, cancel your free trial once your item has shipped, should you not want to continue being a Prime member.

With that, I scoured not just Amazon’s Prime Early Access Sale, but also its competitors, to find the best drone deals out there this week. There are deals on flying drones, underwater drones, and all sorts of other accessories and tech gear that drone users often use. Here’s the best of the best:

Earn an easy $10 credit with certain gift card purchases on Amazon

This one isn’t specific to drones, but it’s such an easy way to earn an Amazon credit toward future purchases, that I’m including it anyway. Purchase a $50 gift card today on Amazon for a selection of stores, and you’ll get a $10 Amazon credit.

Stores include Panera (hello bread bowls!), Gap and sports apparel site Fanatics, as well as Amazon itself. Considering you’re likely an Amazon shopper anyway if you’re reading this, grab that $50 Amazon gift card (or any other participating store) to have $10 down the road. That’s basically a 20% bonus.

An underwater drone: $250 off the Chasing Gladius Mini Underwater ROV Kit off Beats and 40% off JBL Vibes (B&H Photo)

You’re likely already a pro at flying drones, but have you ever tried an underwater drone? These neat little tools ‘fly’ underwater, gathering aerial footage. They can be a new way to get into underwater photography, but they also have proven to be valuable tools for scientists and other researchers, or even people who need to perform underwater inspections, such as looking underneath their boats or docks.

The market for underwater drones isn’t huge, but one of the biggest players, Chasing, has got its Gladius MINI Underwater ROV Kit on sale over at B&H Photo. It’s normally $1,199, but it’s on sale with an instant $250 savings, bringing it down to just $949.

DJI Mavic 3: 7% off (Amazon)

Normally $2,199, the DJI Mavic 3 is one of DJI’s best camera drones, featruring a 20MP wide-angle camera with 4/3″ CMOS from camera maker Hasselblad, as well as a 12MP telephoto with 1/2″ CMOS, 4K video, and 28x hybrid zoom.

Thanks to a January 2022 Mavic 3 firmware update, some of the drone’s best features — including QuickShots and QuickTransfer — were added. And yes, that 28x DJI Mavic 3 optical zoom is incredible.

Right now, it’s 7% off on Amazon for the Early Access Sale, meaning you save $150. That brings the $2,199 price down to $2,049. We see this deal fairly often for other past sales, so this is not the BEST deal out there. But if you have your eye on the Mavic 3, you might as well jump on this as we don’t ever see it listed lower than this.

DJI FPV Combo: 23% off (Amazon)

Largely thanks to the 2022 launch of the DJI Avata drone, FPV has become super hot right now. But the Avata’s FPV predecessor is also an excellent choice for certain FPV pilots. By the way, if you’re not sure what drone is better for you, check out my guide to DJI Avata vs DJI FPV.

Unlike the Avata, this one is really positioned as a racing drone (it can reach maximum speeds of 87 mph, at a maximum acceleration of 0-62 mph in just two seconds). But with a camera that shoots at 4K/60fps 120 Mbps, it’s also an excellent camera drone.

Right now, the DJI FPV Combo is going for 23% off on Amazon, bringing the $1,299 price down to $999.

Headphone sales: 34% off Beats and 40% off JBL Vibes (Amazon)

Whether you’re editing videos together for social media, or just jamming in your everyday life, every good drone photographer needs an even better pair of headphones. The two best deals are on Beats and JBL headphones.

Top pick: 34% off Beats Studio3 Wireless Noise Cancelling Over-Ear Headphones (usually $349, now $229)

If money is no object, grab those swanky Beats Studio3 Wireless Noise Cancelling Over-Ear Headphones. It has incredible adaptive noise canceling (pure ANC) to actively block external noise, and offers up to 22 hours of battery life. Plus, it incorporates Apple’s W1 chip and Bluetooth technology to reduce drop-outs, even when you’re farther away.

These guys are typically $349, but they’re on sale now for 34% off, down to $229.

Budget pick: 40% off JBL VIBE 100 (usually $50, now $29.95)

If spending $229 on headphones is not your jam, even when on sale, here’s a far more budget-friendly option: the JBL VIBE 100 TWS – True Wireless In-Ear Headphones.

Although not noise-cancelling, they offer an impressive deep bass powered by the 8mm drivers. These are in-ear buds, ergonomically shaped with 3 sizes of ear tips offered to ensure a perfect seal for extra comfort and sound clarity.

They’re usually $50, but they’re 40% off, down to just 29.95.

iPad sales: 38% off Apple iPad Pro 11″ (Adorama)

If you’re someone who prefers flying your drone with a tablet connected to the controller, it might be time to upgrade to the 11″ Apple iPad Pro, if you haven’t already.

Its A12Z Bionic processor means it performances just as well as most modern laptops. The display is gorgeous thanks to a Liquid Retina display with a 2388 x 1688 resolution, ProMotion technology, wide color and True Tone support. Plus, it performs better than most other smartphones and tablets when flying outside during bright, sunny days thanks to the screen’s 600 cd/m2 of brightness.

Adorama is selling the Apple iPad Pro at a $500 discount through the end of the day, down 38% from $1,299 to just $799.

Bonus sales for certain Amazon Prime credit card holders

If you have an eligible Prime membership and you hold certain Amazon credit cards, including the Amazon Prime Visa Card, Prime Store Card, and Amazon Prime Secured Card, then you can earn up to 15% back on select deals just for cardholders.

I recommend the Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature Card. Largely considered Amazon’s best credit card, it offers an automatic 5% back at both Amazon and Whole Foods, which is combinable with other discounts — and it has plenty of other benefits to go with it including these discounts listed below.

I so enjoy flying my DJI Mavic 2 Pro drone and have been contemplating purchasing the DJI Avata drone.
Not sure if the headset work for me since I only sight in one eye (childhood accident).
Would be grateful for your insight.
