Join me at DJI AirWorks 2022 conference TODAY to learn how to get better press coverage for your drone business
If you’re in Las Vegas today, head on over to Breakout Room C this afternoon, where I’d love to meet you in person! From 2:30-3:15 p.m. PT, I’ll be leading a workshop as part of the DJI AirWorks 2022 conference dubbed “How to Pitch Your Drone Business to the Press.”
This 45-minute workshop is set to be highly interactive, and it’ll allow you to walk away with truly valuable, actionable steps to take in improving your pitch. In fact, you’ll have time during the workshop to fiddle with it and walk away with an already-improved pitch.

What to expect from my workshop this afternoon at the DJI AirWorks 2022 conference:
If you’re showing up today, bring a laptop or other means of writing a draft. Bring your current elevator pitch if you already have it. And if you don’t, no worries. Just be prepared to craft one. Some things to expect to learn:
- how to get better press coverage
- a hefty list of buzzwords to avoid
- an exercise for crafting the ultimate elevator pitch
- tips for composing your subject line (and yes, your subject line can often matter more than the press release or body of the email!)
- insider suggestions to make sure journalists actually cover your story
The workshop is primarily centered around pitching your drone business (or personal drone brand) to members of the press. As creator of this site, I get dozens of pitches a day. And with my other full-time job as a journalist (currently at NerdWallet, and formerly at past news outlets including the New York Times and MarketWatch), I’ve seen all sorts of pitches on a range of topics. I know what sorts of stories get published because, well, I do the publishing.
But, it’s also applicable to people pitching to investors who are seeking funding, or even more simply people pitching clients to work with them or buy their product.
My timeslot competes with a few other great panels, including an outdoor demo with FlytBase, a surveying panel on the main stage, a look at drones for search and rescue, and an overview of wind asset inspections. But I promise I’ll get you out in time for the 3:15 p.m. outdoor demo with DroneSense and the sneak peek inside Ameren’s drone program and how it’s helping hurricane response.
And if you can’t make my talk, find me floating around AirWorks. come say hi, as I’ll be at the conference all week!
