Pix4D, the Swiss-based company known for leveraging drones for photogrammetry, is growing its presence in Japan, which means there’s a new Pix4D Tokyo office.

The company known for its software capable of converting images taken by hand, drone, or plane into accurate and georeferenced survey-grade 2D mosaics, 3D models, and point clouds is looking to strengthen its presence in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) market. And with that, the company announced in April that it would move its original Tokyo office, which opened in 2019, to the nearby Shibuya Jinnan.

Here’s a look at the new Pix4D Tokyo office:

The first office was more of a small cohort, starting with just two employees. It’s grown to six — and a Pix4D spokesperson said that number will continue to grow according to the market needs. There currently are not any Pix4D job openings in Asia (though there are tons in Switzerland and other parts of Europe, as well as a few in the U.S. at the Pix4D Denver office).

And it sounds like there could be market needs. Pix4D has seen impressive growth over the past year given the launch of multiple new products, including standalone cloud platform Pix4Dcloud, specialized large-scale mapping software Pix4Dmatic, and inspection combination platforms Pix4Dscan and Pix4Dinspect.

Rather than just an office, the new Tokyo location is being positioned as an APAC hub. After all, the Asia market is quickly adopting drones. Pix4D’s latest product, the 3D-scanning app Pix4Dcatch, has already been used by the Tokyo University of Agriculture for research. Pix4D already has a number of local partners in the Tokyo area, working with premium resellers such as Cybernetech, ImageOne and SkyLink Japan. The company also has business partnerships with Andoshouji Co.Ltd, Kokusai Kogyo (KKC), and TP Holdings Co.,Ltd.

Among the most important use-cases for drones in Japan include rust detection in bridges, crack detection in roads, antenna inspection for 5G deployment, construction site monitoring, feasibility studies and cultural heritage maintenance.
